I’ve been in quite the collaborative mood lately, and this reminded me of a creative exchange I had with a friend in Haifa, Israel a few years back.

I received a surprise message on social media from a fan in Israel named Troy, who had heard my music online and went on to purchase a few of my albums. We messaged back and forth a little bit, and he sent me a link to some of his own songs. Troy, as it turns out, is a talented electronic musician and singer in his own right.

I was in the process of recording a song called “Lightbulbs” and thought it would be cool if Troy sang a backup chant on it. He agreed, and I emailed him an mp3 of my rough song. He recorded a few passes on top of it, then sent me some wav files of his isolated vocal tracks. I edited them up and you can hear the finished product below. Troy’s sings backups in the choruses and his chant starts at 2:24, repeating throughout.

I repaid the favor a year later when Troy asked if I could play some acoustic and electric guitars on his song, “Material”. So he and I have done two trans-Atlantic collaborations so far, and I would like to do more in the future. Hear the TROY’s song below:
