Shakespeare’s Moon (4:37)

Hubris eats me alive
But only in the sunken stranger’s greenish eye
Heaven truly knows thou art false as hell

Shakespeare’s moon is my moon
For us to kiss under
Or gift out lunacy
Oh, on a fair night both

The circle in the sky that saw the inspirational apparition
Was the one that watched the diner burn to the ground in 1956
Same as under which
Just last night I begged through tears
To let its glow wash your name away from my skin

Benvolio walks before Jesus
From Bethlehem to Stratford on Avon

Shakespeare’s moon serves refuge
To a lonely boy who’s drowning in his dreams
Oh!
Let him alone, let him alone, leave me alone
No go, no go

Let the wine pour
And let the water spill across your breast
The book of tomorrow sits away on its shelf
Entirely unblessed

Benvolio walks before Jesus
From Bethlehem to Stratford on Avon

Shakespeare’s moon is my moon
For us to kiss under
Or gift out lunacy
Oh, on a fair night both

Song Notes

Recorded in the early 90’s under the name “Bethlehem to Stratford on Avon”. When William finally released the song in 2020, he renamed it “Shakespeare’s Moon” after the lyrical hook in the chorus. You know, like a normal person.
