Back in the day I made a ton of cassette mixes. The tapes were filled with music of all suits, comedy bits, movie dialogue, and sometimes remixes of my own material. I’m trying to think if there’s a good way to share them with you without breaking copyright laws. (There isn’t). A few years back, I encoded most of these cassette mixes to mp3 format. Today I was listening to “405” which was a collection I put together for a trip I took to Los Angeles in the early ‘aughts. On it, there’s a remix of my song Ashland that I can’t find anywhere else. I’m sure I made the remix just for this cassette, but why I would have thrown out the file is beyond me.
I want to share it with you, so I opened up the 50 minute mix mp3 in Adobe Audition and snipped out the portion with the alternate mix of Ashland. Because it’s in the middle of, well, a mix, you can hear the preceding song fading out at the beginning of the track, and the following song begin. If you can identify both songs that bookend Ashland, email me, and I’ll send you out a prize package in the mail!
